July 05, 2008: Saraguro to Loja, Ecuador

Very pleasant day. But we probably should have stayed an extra day in Saraguro and taken in the Saturday market. It was a very nice place. Anyway, we had a good climb to start (about 500 meters) and then some up and down before descending to San Lucas. At San Lucas, right before the bridge, we took the road to the left, which is the old Pan-Am. It was a delight. 35km of dirt road, no traffic, interesting places, nice valley. And easier and shorter than the new Pan-Am, from all accounts. Plenty of interested dogs, as always when we get off the highway.
