Here's Nancy riding back down from El Rosario, just to give you some idea of the steepness. But the picture doesn't really show it.

DSC02331 Washing at the Lavadero in Zitacuaro.jpg
The next day was Sunday, and we ended up in Zitacuaro. All the laundromats were closed, so we found the public lavadero, a place for poor people to wash clothes. Luis and Juan helped us find it... and then took us home to their in-laws' house to camp there, which was an incredible treat.

Here's our camp in the barnyard of Luis' in-laws' house. There were turkeys and chickens and sheep, among other livestock. And some good fruit trees.

DSC02341 Valle de Bravo.jpg
After a good solid day's ride from Zitacuaro we came down to beautiful Valle de Bravo and its incredible lake. This is by far the most beautiful lake we saw in Mexico. Valle de Bravo is mostly a weekend getaway for richer folks from Mexico City, but we were there during the week and found it a fascinating city in its own right, not just a vacation getaway.

Valle de Bravo is built on the serious hills that rise right out of the lake. There's some choice riding here, on cobblestones up steep inclines.

Leaving Valle de Bravo, we climbed over to Temascaltepec, then began a search for the right road to cross over to Chiltepec. We got a lot of blank stares when we asked about it, but began a big climb anyway.
