How often do you get sick

How often do you get sick? What do you think it's from- the weather, food, and/or water? What do you do for the sickness? Thanks!

Thankfully, we haven't had a lot of trouble with sickness. We've had occasional bouts of intestinal problems, but not so much, and none for the last few months. In Nicaragua Nancy had a round with parasites, but was better after taking the easy-to-get parasite medicine.
Our big issue was getting the whooping cough (pertussis) in Guatemala. That put us out of commission for a couple of months, and we took a couple more to recuperate before continuing. But it's not a normal thing for bike tourists to get. We probably got it in the course of the volunteering we were doing there. But we do recommend the adult vaccination for whooping cough that is now available.
We eat food that has been cooked, almost exclusively. Soup, rice, chicken, bread, etc. There's almost nothing that can go wrong with those. We filter tap water most often for our water, although we also buy purified water in bottles, but we hate to waste the plastic.
